My Mission
MY STORY
My journey to the healthy life began a few years ago, February 18, 2005, to be exact. My family and I had just returned from a Florida vacation. My kids had taken a picture of me in my bathing suit - I hated it! Was that really me? I looked and felt out of shape and unfit.
That very day I made a commitment to myself to change. I decided I had to start exercising more and eating better. It began with a plan to exercise everyday for 30 days (something, anything!) and to follow the Weight Watchers program. After 30 days, I felt so good I couldn't stop. Yes, I have to admit, my original reason for wanting to change was pure vanity. But that has changed. Along the way I realized that a healthy body is much more important than looks.
At about the same time a friend gave me the book "Younger Next Year". Wow, what a life-changer! At first I thought the book did not apply to me (only 35 years old then), but I soon realized that the message could apply to each and every one of us. The author was preaching exercise everyday along with healthy eating. This book gave me the motivation to keep going. After 30 days, I felt so good, I couldn't stop...and I haven't since! Slight exaggeration of course, but hopefully you get the idea. I began reading health and fitness books and magazines. Yikes! A lot of great information, but also a lot of mixed messages. This diet, that diet, 2-minute exercise programs, Atkins, South Beach...and the list goes on and on, creating more confusion than providing answers. There is an answer, however, and it's quite simple - exercise combined with healthy eating.
So, I decided to turn my passion and experience into a career. Today I continue to have a very active lifestyle, exercising every day - I love to run, bike, walk and hike, and play ringette. I love to try new activities whenever I get a chance. I have run half-marathons, and participated in many different activities, including fitness classes and boot camps. My family is active and healthy and we eat a very healthy diet, comprising of wholesome nutritious food.
As I am writing this, 15 years have passed since I made my 'life change'. The physical and mental energy that have has continued to improve with each passing year.
The passion I feel for how important it is to take care of our bodies, is hard to put into words...I hope you get it!
Yours in health,
Avril
